About Me,I walk With Jesus Christ
Resume
Born a sinner in Silver Spring MD, December 15, 1951, to Helen and Nelson Thayer who have both gone to be with the Lord. In fact God used Ron to give spiritual birth to his dad shortly before he died making way for his arrival into heaven. After Graduation from Northwood High School 1970, during the Viet Nam War, Ron joined the United States Marine Corps to get away from the rules of his home, was he surprised!! After boot camp at Paris Island South Carolina, he was stationed at Camp Lejune N.C, Camp Pendleton CA and as a young PFC he was shipped out and he served overseas with the Westpac fleet assigned to the combat ready unit, Bravo Battery 1st Battalion 12th Marines, 3rd Marine Division and finally Quantico MCB VA where he was discharged as a Corporal. Ron proudly served a total of 6 years after which time he received His Honorable Discharge from the United States Marine Corps.
Ron had one major desire after he was discharged from the Marine Corps,, get married. Well that happened soon after discharge. What followed he was hired and worked 30 years with ADT Security System, corporate security company, all with the help of his nephew and close friend Bobby Alexander. After he retired Sept. 2003, Ron was hired by the Stafford County Sheriff’s Department where he served until June 1, 2020 actively as one of the Department Chaplains. Ron's desire to minister in Emergency Services actually start for him across the hall where he served as the Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department Chaplain since 1995, well it really began long before 2003 and 1995. April 1976 Ron Joined the Stafford Volunteer Fire Dept.
Pastor Ron has served in the fire service community for over 50 years beginning as young man serving with the Silver Spring Volunteer Fire Dept following the path of his dad. Ron has held the position of Fire Chief, President and Chaplain with the Stafford Volunteer Fire Department, where he is presently a life member.
Ron was saved on May 12, 1990 after going through his first of what would be 3 open heart surgeries. Ron got saved in the basement of his home, with the help of his brother Bill Thayer, now in heaven with Jesus. Rons entire family started to attend Friendship Baptist Church in Fredericksburg VA where the children found Christ and were baptized.
Ministry work quickly became part of Ron’s new life. He was ordained and served three years as a deacon at Friendship Baptist Church, where he and Ms. Dee met many new families and friends in the LORD.
In December 1994, God put on Ron’s heart a desire to start a new work in Fredericksburg. On January 1, 1995 Kings Hwy Baptist Church held its first service. It was at Kings Hwy that Ron became Chairman of the Deacons where he served for 3 years. Then God really began to work when He called Ron into the Gospel Ministry. On April 27, 1997, Kings Hwy Baptist Church ordained Ron has a Minister of the Gospel. On January 29, 2003, while going through his third open heart surgery, yes that is correct 3, the members of Kings Hwy Baptist Church voted Ron to become the Associate Pastor of the Church. Pastor Ron took on the position and became a strong support to the Senior Pastor, the Deacon Ministry and taught an adult Sunday School class.
On September 18, 2005, Pastor Ron and Ms Dee embarked on a new ministry journey as founding pastor of the Open Door Community Church which would be their lives for the next 10 years, seeing people of all ages come to know Jesus Christ as LORD and Savior. Pastor Ron loves to tell everyone his testimony of how he came from a world of sin to the senior pastor of the ODCC family. Due to Rons 30 year battle with heart disease, on January 1 2014 Ron Retired as Pastor of Open Door Community Church. Soon after his retirement the church voted Pastor Ron as Pastor Emeritus. Pastor Ron now ministers as Founder and Minister of the Fellowship of the BADGE a very active website ministry. Pastor Ron began a time of serious study for 6 years after his first heart surgery. He attended the Fredericksburg Bible Institute and George Wythe College, working diligently to obtain his degree in Ministry. On April 27, 1997, after his ordination service at Kings Hwy, his wife presented him with his diploma from George Wythe College, Cedar City Utah, Associate of Arts Biblical Studies. GOD is good.
Rev. Ron's favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6, He loves the Redskins, his Harley Davidson Softail which sad to say he had to sell due to his health, but most important to Pastor Ron, the hero of his life, his wife Ms. Dee, his best bud.
On January 1, 2020, Rev. Ron and Ms. Dee decided it was time to retire from all Emergency Services as Chaplain and begin a new chapter in their lives. Rev. Ron iit is sad again to say due to his health no longer is able to fill pulpit supply for church needs. He asks for all to visit Fellow of the BADGE. As he says, he is always open for prayer and bible conversation, as he ends his writings and messages, always, be safe, be blessed, be born again, out here.
